Knockengorroch - Huun Huur Tu
Probably the most famous Tuvan musical export featuring Mongolian overtone chanting. I last saw them at the Siam tent at Womad 2005. Quite a few artists are doing this technique now… ones I’ve photographed recently include Athena, Arve Henriksen and Yat-Kha. Most of the Knockengorroch audience hadn’t heard this otherworldly sound before, many people were scratching their heads wondering how they got those sounds. Horses are very important to Mongolian culture, hence the 1st photo during a song about horses.
