I didn’t think I’d be a fan of Babyshambles, but they were actually pretty good. The atmosphere of the gig was definitely helped by an enthusiastic audience. Pete kicked a beer can at us photographers in the pit, luckily it just missed my camera. Doherty always seems so sensitive and thoughtful in the millions of media photos I’ve seen so it was a bit of a surprise that he has quite a punk edge to him.

Having checked out Johnny Truant’s material on their MySpace page, I didn’t think I was going to be into an evening of growling death metal. I was wrong! These guys really know how to perform, one of the most charismatic metal bands I’ve seen in quite a while. I’m sure they’re going to be huge.
This was the first time I’ve taken photos at The Cockpit in Leeds, very bizarre place. The band have to leave their dressing room and go into the street to get to the back of the stage. Luckily the band are okay with my getting on the stage with them, otherwise it would be quite tricky to get photos as there’s no photographer’s pit and the venue is packed.
I have a personal theory that many bands owe their success to the way they communicate through archetypes. According to Carl Jung, an archetype is a model of behaviour that comes from the collective unconscious… in more simple english it’s a recognisable role that someone might play in life that has a resonance with other people.
I will post a list of archetypes below (from Caroline Myss’ website) which should cover the most frequent ones. I’m sure you can recognise many bands in there. Take a look at the link for more details about each archetype.
If you’re a band thinking of having a photo shoot, I would suggest having a look at the list… see which ones apply to you and then it will make choices about visual imagery much easier.
