Dinosaurs of rock, more like!
I had fun at this one, an unbelievably hot beautiful day.

Monsters Of Rock - Deep Purple

Monday, June 5th, 2006

I love classic Deep Purple, but I wasn’t expecting this gig to be any good without Blackmore and Lord. I used to have a couple of Steve Morse albums, and I hated them… bland country rock widdliness. Wow they were good though, Morse has found loads of charisma and his playing is much more fiery. Ian Gillian can still belt those tunes out! I had a great time listening to all the classic songs I grew up listening to. Unfortunately I left early to beat the traffic, walking out of the venue to ‘Smoke on the Water’. I used to work in a guitar shop in London… I must have heard it every day for a year along with Stairway to Heaven. It was nice to hear it being played properly!

Monsters Of Rock - Alice Cooper

Low on music, high on entertainment and theatrics. The crowd loved it.

Monsters Of Rock - Journey

Many people had apparently come to the event just to see Journey… I was told that out of all the bands they had sold the most t-shirts. I don’t know their material, but it all sounded very similar to me. What has Neal Schon done to the bridge on his Les Paul? Sacrilege!
